The Events of 1792

- Three Convict ships arrive in Port Jackson (New South Wales, Australia), "Pitt", "Royal Admiral" and "Kitty". They are the first since the Third Fleet. A retail shop opens in Sydney, selling items from the "Pitt".
- The reigning King of England was King George III.
- "A Vindication of The Rights of Woman" written by Mary Wollstonecraft is published.
- 20 February - The Postal Service Act, establishing the United States Post Office Department, is signed by President George Washington.
- 2 April - The Coinage Act is passed establishing the United States Mint.
- 24 April - First experimental use of the guillotine in France.
- 25 April - "La Marseillaise," the French national anthem, is composed by Claude Joseph Rouget.
- 17 May - Buttonwood Agreement is signed, beginnings of the New York Stock Exchange.
- 21 May - Old lava dome collapses in Kyushu, Japan when Mount Unzen volcano eruptes: resulting avalaanche and tsunami kills about 14300.
- 1 June - Kentucky is admitted as the 15th U.S. state.
- 18 June - Mary Bryant, an escaped convict, along with other escapees arrives in Portsmouth, England aboard the HMS "Gorgon".
- 10 August - French Revolution: Storming of the Tuileries Palace - Louis XVI of France is arrested and taken into custody.
- 2 September - During what became known as the September Massacres of the French Revolution, rampaging mobs slaughtered three Roman Catholic Church bishops and more than two hundred priests.
- 11 September - Six men steal some of the former French Crown jewels from a warehouse where the revolutionary government used to store them.
- 21 September - French convention abolishes the monarchy and establishes the First Republic.
- 12 October - The first Columbus day is celebrated in the United States.
- 13 October - Foundation of Washington, DC. The cornerstone of the United States Executive Mansion, known as the White House since 1818, is laid.
- 1 November - An American trade ship the 'Philadelphia' arrives in Port Jackson (New South Wales, Australia) carrying American beef, wine, rum, gin and tobacco.
- 3 December - George Washington is re-elected President of the United States.
